چکیده
Integration of cover crops and livestock (ICLS) in an existing corn (Zea mays L.)–soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] cropping system can be effective strategy to improve soil physical hydrological properties. Three on-farm long-term (≥30 yr) sites (Sites 1, 2 3) one short-term (3 experimental site (Site 4) with a randomized block design eastern South Dakota were selected evaluate the impacts ICLS on At Sites 2, 3, following management systems compared: (corn/grazing–soybean/grazing–cover crop/grazing), control (CNT, corn–soybean no crop grazing), grazed pasture (GP). Site 4, treatments included (corn/grazing–soybean/grazing–oat [Avena sativa L.]–cover crop/grazing], (corn–soybean–oat–cover CNT (corn–soybean–oat without GP. Data showed that organic carbon (SOC) was higher by 20–26% bulk density lower 18–37% compared CNT. Long-term also improved water retention, macroporosity, infiltration rate, total porosity However, these properties not affected at 4. The GP had SOC rate except This study integration grazing under beneficial enhancing whether such improves other quality parameters yield requires further investigation.

N uptake and yield of wheat as influenced by integrated use of organic and mineral nitrogen
The effect of integrated use of mineral and organic N sources (farmyard manure, poultry manure, and Filter Cake) on yield and N uptake of wheat were assessed in biennial field experiment carried out on silty clay loam soil in Nuclear Institute for Food and Agriculture, Tarnab, Peshawar Pakistan during 2005-07. Combined dose of N provided from all sources was applied @120 kg ha-1. There were 17 ...
متن کاملSoil Microbial Community Dynamics as Influenced by Composted Dairy Manure, Soil Properties, and Landscape Position
Manure applications can benefit crop productivity by adding required nutrients and organic matter to soil. There is a paucity of information on how soil microbial community dynamics will be altered by the application of manure to different landscape positions. Thus, an in situ field study was conducted during the summer and winter months to evaluate microbiological properties of three soil type...
متن کاملCellulose Decomposition in Soil Burial Beds: II. Cellulolytic Activity as Influenced by Alteration of Soil Properties.
Microbiological breakdowin of cellulose materials in soil as influenced by the soil environment is of interest to both agriculture and industry. The need for better understanding of possible effects due to variations in soil used as a component of soil burial beds led to investigations on the cellulolytic activities of diverse mineral soils. An accompanying paper (Schmidt and Ruschmeyer, 1958) ...
